Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 28, 2026

AugStudy ("we", "us") is a gamified study app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it plain-English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us at mrnhlservices@gmail.com.

Who this app is for (13+)

AugStudy is intended for people 13 years of age or older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not create an account or use the app. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

What we collect

We only collect what the app needs to work. Specifically:

  • Account & identity: your email address and a password (or, if you choose Google sign-in, the basic profile Google shares), plus your username, display name, and chosen avatar emoji.
  • Study content you create: the decks, flashcards, and notes you type, any PDFs or files you upload, and any voice notes you record (transcribed to text; the recording itself isn't stored) to generate study material from.
  • Study progress: quiz and flashcard results, spaced-repetition schedules, weak questions, XP, levels, streaks, gems, hearts, pets, and badges.
  • Social features: your friends list, study groups, classrooms, public decks you share, reactions, and leaderboard standing.
  • Messages & notifications: in-app notifications, and (if you enable push) a device notification token so we can send reminders.
  • Basic technical data: information needed to keep the service running and secure (e.g. authentication logs handled by our hosting provider).
  • Crash & error reports: if the app runs into an error, we collect technical diagnostics (error type, stack trace, app version, and your user ID) so we can find and fix bugs. This never includes your study content.

We do not collect your contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

How we use it

  • To run the core app: save your decks, track progress, power streaks, pets, and gamification.
  • To generate AI study material you ask for (see the AI section below).
  • To enable social features you opt into (friends, groups, classrooms, leaderboards).
  • To send you study reminders and activity notifications you can turn off.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your study content to show you ads.

AI features

Some features (generating flashcards, summaries, and study plans; the study chat; quiz and pet-battle questions; and (if you record a voice note) transcribing your recording) work by sending the relevant content (the notes or deck text you choose to process, the messages you type, or a voice note you record) to third-party AI providers that run the models which produce the result:

  • Anthropic: Claude models.
  • Groq, Inc.: Llama models, and Whisper for transcribing voice notes.
  • OpenRouter: routes some requests to underlying models from providers such as Meta (Llama) and Google (Gemma).

This content is sent only to generate your output. It is not used to train these providers' models, and they process it as our service providers. Voice recordings are transcribed and not stored. If you don't use the AI features, none of your content is sent to these providers.

Who stores and processes your data

  • Supabase: our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Your account, study content, progress, and social data are stored here.
  • AI providers (Anthropic, Groq, and OpenRouter): process the content you submit to AI features (and any voice note you record) to generate your results, as described above. OpenRouter may route requests to underlying models from providers such as Meta and Google.
  • Sentry: receives crash and error reports (technical error details and your user ID) so we can diagnose and fix problems. We do not send your study content to Sentry.
  • Apple / Google / Ko-fi: if you subscribe to AugSuper, payment is handled by the app store or Ko-fi. We never see your card details; we only receive whether your membership is active.
  • Your device: for offline mode, decks and progress are cached locally on your device (in on-device storage). This stays on your device and is cleared when you sign out or delete the app.

We share data with these providers only to run the service, and only what each one needs. We may also disclose information if required by law.

Notifications

The app can send study reminders and activity alerts. On mobile you can turn these off at any time in your device settings; in-app notifications can be managed from your inbox. You control whether to grant notification permission.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Access & edit your profile and content in the app.
  • Delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app. This permanently removes your account and associated data.
  • Request deletion another way: if you can't access the app, visit augstudy.ca/data-deletion or email us.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, study content, progress, and social data from our database. Backups and provider logs are removed on their normal rotation cycles.

International users and data transfers

AugStudy is operated from Canada and used by people around the world. Our providers (Supabase and Groq) may store and process your data on servers located in Canada, the United States, or other countries. Wherever your data is processed, we require these providers to protect it and to use it only to run the service.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with data protection laws (such as the GDPR), you have rights to access, correct, delete, and request a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including access and deletion; we do not sell your personal information. You can exercise these rights in the app (Settings → Delete Account), at augstudy.ca/data-deletion, or by emailing us.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
